Australian star Samantha Riley claims gold, in a world record time, in the 100m breastroke at the 1994 World Swimming Championships in Rome. Riley’s time of 1:07.69 takes 0.22 of a second off Silke Hörner world mark, set 7 years earlier. Riley competed for Australia in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, winning three medals.

Kieren Perkins takes gold, in a new world record time, to win Gold in the 400m Freestyle at the 1994 World Swimming Championships in Rome. Perkin’s time of 3:43.80 betters the previous world mark by over a second. He has won two Olympic gold medals in 1992 and 1996 in the 1500-metre freestyle, and a silver medal in 2000.

De Bruijn went on to win 3 Golds and 1 Silver at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and a 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronzes in the Athens 2004 Games. As of May 2009, De Bruijns world record of 56.61 still had not been beaten.

July 25, 2005, Montreal. Roland Schoeman sets the world record in the 50m butterfly at the LC World Championships, with a time of 22.96s, becoming the first man under 23s in this event. He is the current World record holder in the short-course 50 meters freestyle, with a time of 20.30 seconds.
